"We are going to try for one of the trains from St. Pancras after 4.50 - They are 6.30, 8.10, 9.15 11.50 - Will phone if in reasonable time, but will probably get a taxi if available.

If Rhena is too late , and or her train home, will probably bring her to sleep in my other bed.  So will you put sheets on and air it? Still working hard for Exhibition on Friday. Love B.

Earthquake in Lancashire 1931!

"Dear Mother.  
Having a lovely time.  The weather is great again today. Awfully surprised to hear about the Earthquake.  Were you alone in the house when you heard it?  We were right out of it here.  Love from Kath."

Editors note:  The largest recorded earthquake experienced in the UK occurred in 1931 and measured 6.1.

"Thanks for your letter.  I was sorry to hear that you have been a victim to the 'Flu.'  Had you only stuck to steak and onions it would never have got hold of you, I'm sure!
The air raid on London was a bad one...Considerable damage in the Strand - Lyceum and Aldwych theatres etc., and also out at Croydon."  JHW

"I have been summoned home to my mother, who is ill - am very anxious about her - There is no chance of my coming up for the Coronation, much as I would like to do so - May I postpone my visit to you until early Autumn?  Will write you a letter in a day or two.  Much Love B.C"

Editors note - One wonders whether 'B.C.' did actually make the Coronation in the end, as it was postponed from 26th June 1902 to 9th August of the same year, as Edward had an emergency appendectomy.
